HISTORY: Prior to annexation to the City of Sacramento in 1965, the 680± acre Campus Commons property was known for its hop production by the Horst and Haas ranches. Site development began in 1966 led by a local Sacramento partnership. Moss & Moss built homes in Villages 1, 2, and 4 (portion). A joint venture of Robert C. Powell Properties & A. Teichert & Son built Villages 3, 10, 4 (portion), and all the homes in Nepenthe HOA. Kimmel Construction built the homes in Village 5 (St. Charles Place). Home construction was completed in 1979.
Robert C. Powell: Mr. Powell was recognized in Sacramento Magazine's Silver Anniversary Issue as one of Sacramento's 25 Most Influential People. Powell projects in Sacramento include Campus Commons, East Ranch, Selby Ranch, Wyndgate, Gold River, Governor's Square, and the Pavilions Shopping Center. Mr. Powell was widely known as a community leader, visionary, and one of Sacramento's most generous philanthropists.
